Yash’s Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups experienced a significant decline in its box office collections on its second Friday, registering a sharp drop as the new release Mirzapur: The Movie opened to a strong response. The film collected an estimated Rs 1.75 crore net in India on Day 10, a 58.8% decline from the Rs 4.25 crore it earned on the previous day, according to Sacnilk.
The drop is even steeper when compared to its opening day, representing a decline of approximately 75% from the Rs 101.10 crore net the film earned on its first day. The film’s total India net collection now stands at Rs 241.05 crore, while its India gross has reached approximately Rs 287.75 crore after ten days.
Internationally, Toxic added around Rs 50 lakh from overseas markets on its second Friday, bringing its total overseas gross to Rs 43.25 crore. With this, the combined worldwide gross for the Geetu Mohandas-directed film has reached Rs 331 crore.
The release of Mirzapur: The Movie has created a significant impact on the Hindi-speaking market, directly competing for audience attention. The film made a powerful debut, earning an estimated Rs 24.75 crore on its opening day, according to early trends. Based on the popular Prime Video series, the theatrical adaptation features Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal, and Divyenndu in their reprised roles.
The film’s performance has put pressure on Toxic, which is already facing a substantial slowdown in its second week. The latest numbers show a stark contrast between the two films, indicating how quickly audience interest can shift to a highly anticipated new release.
Adding to the competitive landscape is Vishal Chaturvedi’s Hanuman Ansh, a devotional biopic that has emerged as a surprise success. The film continues to attract audiences through strong word of mouth, with exhibitors reportedly adding more shows due to sustained demand.
The arrival of Mirzapur and the unexpected staying power of Hanuman Ansh have made the current theatrical environment particularly competitive, creating a challenge for Toxic as it navigates its second weekend. The Yash-led film, which opened to disappointing reviews and had a massive opening, is now facing a steep correction in its theatrical run.
Reports indicate that the film’s English version, which was released on Friday, performed poorly, earning only Rs 1.4 lakh from 11 shows across four cities. The film is reportedly made on a budget of over Rs 500 crore, and its current trajectory suggests a significant financial loss for its distributors.
