The film, based on the life of spiritual guru Neem Karoli Baba, opened to a modest response on August 7, earning only ₹10 lakh on its first day across 25 screens . The first week ended at ₹1.08 crore and the second week dropped further to ₹40 lakh, leading industry observers to write off the film .

Director Vishal Chaturvedi revealed that the film was initially rejected by OTT platforms using ‘derogatory’ language . ‘I felt that the way they rejected the story, the kind of language they used, I found it to be derogatory,’ Chaturvedi said in an interview with India TV . He added, ‘The narrative in their mind is filled with garbage, and now it is necessary to bust that narrative’ .
The film’s producer is 21-year-old Anupriya Nagar, an economics student from the University of Bath who had never planned to make a film . Nagar said she discovered Neem Karoli Baba while researching tech founders, including Steve Jobs, for a university assignment . ‘It was a risk to make a film on Maharaj Ji, but to be honest, it was never my intention to make it for box office collections,’ Nagar told Doordarshan . She added, ‘I am just 21, I don’t even know what I will do with so much money’ .
The film stars Shobhinaw Satyaa in the lead role as Neem Karoli Baba . Written and directed by Vishal Chaturvedi, the film is based on the book ‘Divine Detour’ . The team has announced that ‘Hanuman Ansh’ will release globally on September 11, 2026, through Hombale Films, and a sequel is also in development .
