Take-Two Interactive has confirmed that Grand Theft Auto Online will continue to receive support after the release of Grand Theft Auto VI. The publisher also reaffirmed that GTA VI will launch as a single-player title on November 19, 2026.
The statements were made during Take-Two’s annual shareholder meeting. When asked about the future of the current online mode, the company said: ‘We will continue to support GTA Online after GTA 6 release and beyond.’
This means players who want a multiplayer Grand Theft Auto experience at launch will need to continue using the existing GTA Online, which first released in October 2013 alongside GTA V.
The confirmation follows previous comments from Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick. Zelnick has said the company maintains a stable update cadence for GTA Online and applies significant resources to the service.
Rockstar Games has not announced an online mode for GTA VI. The studio has repeatedly described the upcoming release as a single-player experience.
Twitch CEO Dan Clancy has stated that GTA VI’s multiplayer component will arrive in 2027. In an interview with Bloomberg, Clancy said Twitch has spoken with Rockstar about its plans.
‘We spent a lot of time talking with Rockstar about their plans, and also helping them think about how they can engage our creators,’ Clancy said. ‘You are going to see this big bump with GTA 6, but then an even bigger one next year when they launch multiplayer.’
Clancy’s statement has not been confirmed by Rockstar or Take-Two. The companies have not publicly addressed when or how a new multiplayer experience will be released.
Rockstar has historically staggered its online releases. GTA Online launched two weeks after GTA V. Red Dead Online arrived seven months after Red Dead Redemption 2.
Take-Two has not provided details on whether a future multiplayer mode would be included with GTA VI or sold separately. The publisher has also not announced a PC version of GTA VI.
GTA VI is scheduled to release on November 19, 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Take-Two has described the game’s preorder performance as unprecedented.
